Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke. The quintessential Caribbean isle that beckons to sailors – small in size with stunning beaches and legendary bars.  As active and rambunctious or as quiet and relaxing as you want it to be. White Bay hypnotizes with unmatched white sands.  It is especially glorious in the morning before the bar hoppers arrive to partake in painkillers and soggy swims to shore.  Ivan’s, on the eastern end, is a hidden gem – share the love.  Besides, Kenny might be there.
Great Harbour is a safe haven for the night with eating establishments galore.  Don’t miss Christina’s bakery, Joan’s Sugar and Spice or the newest kid on the block, a Tipsy Shark (those painkillers on Jost get everyone sooner or later).  Rudy’s is a mainstay for a provisioning stop, complete with Ting and our favorite Fabuloso scent, Ocean Paradise.  A few drops in the heads keeps them truly fabulous. Little Harbour is home to one of our very favorite (and most endearing) island restaurants: Abe’s by The Sea. Island food cooked with love.
No visit to JVD would be complete without a stop at BLine on Little Jost along with a walk on Sandy Spit or an afternoon at Sandy Cay – your very own private islands.  Anchor overnight at Manchioneel Bay or grab a mooring ball at Diamond Cay.
We recommend (and, yes, there are also the obvious places at the top of everyone’s list, but we really do believe in sharing the love):
  • Grabbing a mooring ball in Great Harbour – it gets crazy busy in White Bay and the wind can turn on a dime.  There are also some crazy strange currents.  It’s safer in Great Harbour.  Really.
  • Ivan’s Stress Free Bar – killer bikini bottoms and Kenny’s favorite – the Banana Wacker (just go with it)
  • Pizza at   Coco Loco
  • Any drink made by Olga at Gertrude’s (don’t ask about the secret rum – it’s super dangerous)
  • Christina’s Bakery – signs point the way from the dinghy dock.  If she is baking cinnamon rolls your nose will lead the way.
  • Rudy’s for provisioning.  And that Fabuloso.
  • Sugar and Spice for breakfast and the best patties in the BVI
  • Abe’s By The Sea – warm, friendly smiles and great food.  Reserve and order the day before.  They can provide cab service from Great Harbour.
  • Make a bee line for B-Line Beach Bar – grab a mooring for the night at Diamond Cay
  • Jost Van Dyke Scuba – diving, snorkeling, gear, fishing gear (and great gear at that!), loads of great gifts and wearables and, wait for it, Costa sunglasses.
